Installation day

INSTALLATION DAY

We offer services for companies, groups and individuals

Welcome and congratulations on joining Sky Fibre Internet. You’ve booked in your installation and you’re feeling pumped. Your online life is about to get much easier and faster. But what happens now? What exactly does your installation involve?
The first thing you can be sure of is that THERE WILL BE NO DIGGING ON YOUR PROPERTY. Phew! Now that that’s out the way, let’s get to the nitty-gritty.

What should I prepare before my installation appointment?
It’s very important that you have an eWAN capable router on the day of installation. If you don’t own one already, you can buy a high-quality router from Sky Fibre, that our Customer Service team are very familiar with. Just make sure you let us know you need a router BEFORE your installation appointment so we can make sure the installer has the device on board for your install.

What exactly is being installed?
The technology we use to provide you with super-fast broadband requires us to install a mast and dish on your roof. The mast is generally 2.4m high and the dish is roughly the size of a dinner plate. The mast and dish are what connects wirelessly with our nearest tower so you can get the best possible speeds.
Our technician will position the mast and on your roof making sure you get the strongest signal and best speeds. Making sure you get the best signal is our top priority but, if you have a specific location on your roof in mind, our technicians are happy to work with you too.

Why do you need access to inside my home?
Installing the mast and dish on your roof is only half of the process. To connect you to the network, our technician will run an Ethernet Cable from the mast along the inside an internal wall of your home or business. They will then install an Ethernet socket on a chosen wall. This becomes your termination point that lets you connect your eWAN router and then your devices.
You can choose which room you would like the Ethernet socket to be in, but the technician may change this, depending on feasibility. Because we need to drill holes into your roof and make small changes to the inside your home, it is important that someone who can advise our technician is home for the duration of the installation.

How long will my install take?
Generally, installation takes 2 to 3 hours to complete. However, this largely depends on how tall your home is, what type of roof you have and the height/style of the mast. So, a multi-storey home or commercial building will take longer to install because it may require our technician to use a different type of mounting system and could require a longer, more complex cable run.

How do you prevent leaks after drilling holes in my roof to install the mast?
All our technicians are highly trained so roof leaks are very not very common after an installation. To seal all the holes, we use high-grade silicon which works on all roof types. However, during an install on a colourbond roof, it is often only necessary to drill a single hole for the cabling to pass through, and the mast is mounted using the existing screws holding your colourbond to the roof.

Then What Happens?
That’s it! Your installation is complete. Happy days! Our engineers will now activate your service from our head office and you’re good to go! Time to enjoy your Super-Fast Broadband.
